About

Hello and welcome!

My name is Julia and I started this blog to help parents and guardians empower kids to read and foster their love of books. To do this, I will share my tips and tricks for a more interactive way to practice reading. Like using baggies of sand or rice to practice letters, following a treasure map to keep them engaged while studying site words, or unscrambling sentences to find the story. I will also touch on conversation activities and games that can foster kids’ creativity and critical thinking. Like cutting a story’s beginning, middle and end scenes up, mixing them around and having to re-tell the story in the new order. Because, let’s face it, everyone, kids and adults, get bored when we have to sit there and force kids to repeat the sounds.

I hope to find and connect with people who believe in giving kids a chance to prove themselves, who believe that each kid has the potential for greatness and that it’s our job to give them the safe space and encouragement to grow into their unique selves.

Here’s to our new adventure!

A little bit about Julia

I love children’s books, coffee, chips, candy and of course, my cat Zip Zip. Shocker! I am a cat lady, but there it is. I LOVE stories! All KINDS of stories. Except horror. I’m not a huge fan of scary stuff. I have traveled a little to Europe, the States, Mexico and lived in Wenzhou (sounds like “when” “joe”) an eastern city in China for 13 years. I am from Canada but living in a teeny tiny, itty bitty duplex in California, USA with my fiancé, his dog Alma and Zip, who we met just a couple sentences ago. I come from a fair-sized family, with parents, stepparents and 5 of us kids in total. Although I guess we aren’t youngsters anymore as we are all grown up now. I am a child at heart, however, and am always letting my imagination take me away on adventures. One of my favorite questions to ask myself is “how can I make this better?”.

This blog is my first crack at writing anything and I hope you will be patient with me as I fumble my way through it. I’m excited to meet and get to know like-minded people and hear what creative ways you have come up with, to educate your own kids.

So, without further ado, welcome to my blog.

J
